Sacrifice of Soviet people helped build better dreams
Commemorating the 28 million people of the former Soviet Union who lost their lives in World War II, veteran leftist politician Ajoy Roy yesterday said their sacrifice paved the way for the new generation to be able to dream of building a better future.
"Visible colonial system was also ended because of their sacrifice," said the chief guest of a discussion, "In Commemoration of the 70th Anniversary of the Glorious Victory Day in the 2nd World War Against Fascism and Nazism".
The Workers' Party of Bangladesh organised it in the capital's Jatiya Press Club.
"Unfortunately, today we see not only attempts at distorting the events of that war but also unmasked cynical defamation of an entire generation of people who gave up everything for this victory, who defended peace on earth," said Russia's Ambassador in Dhaka Alexander Nikolaev.
Workers' Party of Bangladesh President Rashed Khan Menon said conspiracies in Bangladesh to distort the 1971 Liberation War's history and foil the trial of war criminals have turned unsuccessful. "European Union, the British House of Commons and House of Lords raised questions over the trial...But no question had been raised over the trial of war criminals of World War," he said.
