Road crashes kill 7

Seven persons were killed and two injured in road accidents in four districts yesterday.

In Munshiganj, a covered-van hit a motorbike on Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Jamaldi Bus Stand in Gazaria upazila, leaving its rider, Jibon Prodhan, 45, a teacher of Karima Kha Osdar Academy, dead on the spot.

Jibon was from Sonargaon upazila of Narayanganj.

Gazaria police seized the vehicle, but its driver managed to flee.

In Sylhet, vegetable vendor Masud, 30, died instantly when a Sylhet-bound bus hit him at Mirabazar; reports our Sylhet correspondent.

Kotwali police rescued the dead body, and sent it to MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.

In Narayanganj, a covered-van ran Azgar Ali, 35, over on Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Balaikha area of Rupganj upazila while he was crossing the road, leaving him dead on the spot; according to our Narayanganj correspondent.

Deceased Azgar was son of Amir Uddin of Mithapur upazila in Rangpur, and had been running a tailoring business in Narayanganj for years.

Rupganj police seized the vehicle, but its driver and his helper managed to flee.

Meanwhile, in another incident in Tarabo area of the same upazila, a goods-laden truck hit a minor boy named Habibur Rahman, son of Shahjahan, leaving him dead.

Rabiul Islam, in charge of Bhulta police outpost, said police recovered the two Narayanganj bodies, and sent them to hospitals for autopsies.

In Dinajpur, a student was killed and another injured when a potato-laden truck rammed a battery-run three wheeler in Chehelgazi area, leaving two passengers critically injured; adds our Dinajpur correspondent.

Injured Rahima Khatun Rima, 24, and Sajid Hasan, both students of  Hajee Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU) in Dinajpur Sadar upazila, were rushed to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital where Rima succumbed to her injuries.

Meanwhile, in another accident, Md Tito,35, a helper of HSTU student bus, was killed under his vehicle while returning from Nawabganj upazila in the district.

 ATM Khalequzzaman, officer-in-charge of Dinajpur Sadar police, confirmed it.

In yet another incident, rickshaw-van puller Mehedul Islam, 50, was killed, and Nazurl Islam, who was riding the van, was injured as a truck hit them from behind on Dinajpur-Dhaka highway in Ghoraghat upazila.

Mehedul was from Mitali Guchhagram village in the same upazila.
