Road crashes kill 6
Six people were killed and 35 others injured in road accidents in four districts yesterday and on Tuesday.
In Gaibandha, a speeding bus losing control abruptly struck a roadside house on Rangpur-Bogra highway in the district's Gobindaganj municipal area early yesterday, leaving an unidentified pedestrian, aged about 38, dead on the spot and 15 others injured.
The injured were admitted to different hospitals.
In Thakurgaon, a motorbike rider was killed when he slipped down under the wheels of a tractor while he was overtaking the latter on Thakurgaon-Farabari road in the district's Sadar upazila yesterday.
Dead Md. Sadek Islam, 52, was a resident of the upazila's Koshalbari village.
A case was lodged in this connection.
In Rangpur, three persons died and 25 others were injured when a Dhaka-bound bus hit a timber-laden three-wheeler on Rangpur- Dhaka highway in Jaygirhat area of Mithapukur upazila on Tuesday night.
The deceased were timber trader Mithun Mian, 25, three-wheeler driver Rashedul Islam, 27, and his assistant Titul Mian, 27, all from the upazila's Serudanga village.
The injured, including 23 passengers of the bus and two others of the three-wheeler, were admitted to different hospitals.
The bodies were sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Police seized the bus, but its driver and assistants managed to flee the scene.
In Jessore, a goods-laden three-wheeler ran a policeman over at Bijoynagar on Jessore-Jhenaidah road on Tuesday around 1:00pm when he was returning home riding his motorbike, leaving him dead on the spot.
Deceased Firoj Chowdhury, 24, was a constable at Khulna Police Line and a resident of Durgapur village in Chaugachha upazila. The body was sent to Jessore Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
