Road crashes kill 5, injure 1

Five people were killed and another was injured in road accidents in three districts yesterday and Monday.

In Tangail, a woman and her son were killed and another was injured when a bus rammed a rickshaw-van in Gangair area on Tangail-Mymensingh Road of Madhupur upazila yesterday.

The deceased were Bedena Begum, 55, of Bekarkona village and Farhad Hossain, 28.

Following the accident, locals blocked the road for half an hour halting vehicular movements.

In Chittagong city, Md Mobarak, 50, of Comilla -- a pushcart puller -- was killed as his cart carrying iron rods turned turtle and pressed him in Basundhara area under Halishahar Police Station yesterday.

Meanwhile in Kalurghat area of the city, bus driver Md Rahman, 30, of Pathanpara area was killed in a head-on collision between his bus and a car on Monday night.

In Gaibandha, rickshaw-van puller Abdus Satter Mia, 40, was killed yesterday at Rangpur Medical College Hospital yesterday after he was injured when a bus hit his van at Shakoa on Gaibandha-Palahbari road on Monday afternoon.
