Road crashes kill 16

Sixteen people were killed and 12 others injured in road accidents in nine districts yesterday and Saturday.

In Tangail, three passengers of a CNG-run auto-rickshaw were killed and three others injured in a head-on collision between a truck and the three-wheeler on Tangail-Mymensingh road in Gangaur area of Madhupur upazila yesterday.

The deceased were Abdul Khaleque, 45, of Deolabari village, Abdul Malek, 60, of Khilgati village and Jony Miah, 20, of Bekarkona village.

In Dinajpur, Sohel Arza, 50, an inspector of Chief Judicial magistrate court in Nilphamari was killed when a three-wheeler fell into a roadside ditch as the driver lost control over the vehicle on Dhaka-Dinajpur highway in Ranirbandar area of Chirirbandar upazila on Saturday.

In Parbatipur upazila of the district, Masuma Begum, 27, of Mubarakpur was killed when a pickup van hit her while she was crossing the Phulbari-Parbatipur highway in Mubarakpur area yesterday.

In Moulvibazar Sadar, three people were killed as a truck rammed a rickshaw on Shah Mostafa road on Saturday.

Two of the deceased were Gautam Roy, 25 and Sawrav Roy, 38, of Club Road area.

Police arrested truck driver Abul Hossain.

In Habiganj Sadar, three people were killed and five others injured as a bus rammed into a human-hauler on Dhaka-Sylhet road near Sayestaganj Police Station on Saturday.

The dead are Shah Alam Bulbul, 40, of Nishapot village, Binod Kor, 40, of Tugli village and Ziaur Rahman, 28, of Haritola.

In Jhalakathi, Abdul Awal, 50, of Rajapur was killed as a motorcycle hit him while he was crossing the Khulna-Barisal highway at Bishwash Bari of Rajapur yesterday.

In Chittagong city, Abdur Jabbar, 30, was killed after being hit by a truck while he was loading goods on the vehicle in Majhirghat area yesterday.

In Gazipur, Sajib, 20, of Sonab village was killed and four others were injured in a head-on collision between a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and Pickup van on Joinabazar-Kawraid road in Jogirchhit area of Sreepur upazila yesterday.

In Shatkhira, Selim Reza, 30, of Meherpur was killed when a truck hit his motorcycle on Satkhira-Jessore highway near Jonaki Cinema Hall in Kolaroa yesterday.

In Chandpur Sadar, Tasnim, 6, son of Tanzil Hosen of Chairman Ghati area was killed when a truck ran him over on Chandpur-Comilla road at Charkila in Mohamaya area yesterday.
