Re-vote at 51 centres Jan 12

Re-vote at 51 polling stations under 20 municipalities will be held on January 12, said Election Commission (EC) officials yesterday.

Voting at those polling stations was suspended on last December 30 due to violence and irregularities.

At a regular meeting, the EC also decided to deploy additional law enforcers and one executive magistrate in each of the 51 polling stations to check violence and irregularities, said an election commissioner.

Till now, ruling Awami League (AL) nominated mayoral candidates won in 168 municipalities, BNP's candidates won in 19, Jatiya Party's candidate won in one and independent candidates won in 26 municipalities. Election to Singair municipality of Manikganj will be held today.
