A Gazipur court yesterday placed prime suspect Himel on a three-day remand in a case filed for the killing of Kashimpur jail guard Rustam Ali.

The court of Senior Judicial Magistrate granted the remand after investigators produced him before the court with a 10-day remand prayer.

Earlier, the case was handed over to Detective Branch (DB) of Police in Gazipur from Joydevpur police.

Himel is one of the four named accused in the case filed by Rustam's wife Nasrin Akter with Joydevpur police yesterday.

She also mentioned four to five anonymous persons in the case statement, said Joydevpur police.

On Monday, bike-riding criminals gunned down Rustam, yards away from the gate of the high-security prison in Kashimpur.

Superintendent of Police (SP) in Gazipur Delwar Hossain said they were conducting drives to nab the other accused.

Meanwhile, the probe body formed by the jail authorities keeps on looking into the personal and professional life of Rustam to know whether he had animosity with anybody, said the prison sources, adding that they suspected there might be a militant link in the killing.
