One killed, 2 hurt in fire in capital

A person died and two others were injured critically in a fire at a hostel in the capital's Wari early yesterday.

The deceased was Suman, 40. The injured -- Shakil, 26, and Shahid, 17, -- are undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital's Intensive Care Unit.

The trio were asleep when the fire broke out in the hostel in Narinda of Wari around 3:30am, said locals.

The reason for the fire could not be known immediately. However, police suspect it was an arson attack as when they reached the spot a little after 4:00am they found the door to their room locked from the outside, said Jihad Hossain, officer-in-charge of Wari Police Station. 

The three were rushed to DMCH where Suman died around 2:30pm, said Partha Shankar Paul, resident medical officer of the burn unit. Locals doused the fire. A case was filed.
