National round of City Bank-Prothom Alo Science Carnival begins in capital
The two-day national round of City Bank-Prothom Alo Science Carnival began yesterday in the capital's Krishibid Institution, Bangladesh in order to make students interested in science and encourage their innovation.
The Bangla daily Prothom Alo, and City Bank have organised the carnival.
Around 900 students of class-VI to XII from about 350 government and non-government schools, colleges and polytechnic institutes of the country are participating in the competition. They are the winners of 15 regional competitions held between May and September this year, according to organisers.
The carnival has been designed with a quiz competition, and a science fair where 115 projects are being displayed, said Munir Hasan, a key person of the carnival.
Science and Technology Minister Yeafesh Osman inaugurated the carnival where Prof Zeba Islam, chairperson of the carnival committee, Dr Rezaur Rahman, former chief scientist of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission, Zahirul Islam, head of corporate social responsibility of City Bank, and Matiur Rahman, editor of Prothom Alo, were present.
Today, the quiz completion and interaction of students with noted scientists of the country will take place. Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid is expected to be present as chief guest and distribute awards among winners.
