More public awareness needed to boost tax collection
Creation of more mass awareness for boosting tax collection has to be stressed in the greater interest of making the country economically self-reliant, said speakers at a discussion in Rajshahi city on Saturday.
They also said transparency and accountability should be ensured in the tax collection system so that more people were encouraged towards tax payment together with increasing the volume of tax collection.
District committee of the Campaign for Good Governance (CGG) organised the discussion "Orientation on Tax Justice for District Campaigners" held at SBMSS hall room. "Domestic Resource Mobilisation, Budget Governance and Tax Justice: Bangladesh Perspective" was the main theme of the discussion.
With CGG district committee president Akbarul Hassan Millat in the chair, Director of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry Sekendar Ali, General Secretary of Rajshahi Rakkha Sangram Parishad Jamat Khan, Executive Director of SBMSS Nur E Jannat, CGG Secretary Azizur Rahman and Advocate Shameem Akhtar Maya spoke on the occasion.
The discussants viewed that the enhanced tax collection from the internal resources could be the effective means of reducing the dependence on foreign aid for executing the uplift programmes.
