Medical students keep demanding restoration of 'carry on' system

Staff Correspondent, Rajshahi

Hundreds of medical students demonstrated in Rajshahi city yesterday demanding restoration of "carry on" system which allowed them to continue with their batch even after they failed any MBBS professional exam.

Students of Rajshahi Medical College (RMC), Islami Bank Medical College, Shah Makhdum Medical College and Barind Medical College jointly formed an hourlong human chain before RMC.

They also handed over a memorandum to the principals  of the medical colleges. The carry on system was suspended after the BMDC announced a new curriculum in 2013.

Dr Nawshad Ali, vice principal of RMC, said on an average around 40 per cent his students fail in one subject in every professional exam but the carry on system, which  was introduced following a study, helped them continue their study comfortably.
