Mass hysteria in Barisal schools again
At least 36 schoolgirls from Charkawa Nayani High School and Charkawa Azad Government Primary School in Barisal Sadar were admitted to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital yesterday after suffering from mass hysteria.
Abdul Malek, headmaster of the high school, said in the morning two students of class VIII became sick and began vomiting.
Later, other girls also began vomiting, he said, adding that they closed the school and admitted 28 students to the hospital.
Headmaster of Charkawa Azad Government Primary School, Majibor Rahaman, said about 10 students became sick and out of them eight were admitted to the hospital.
Das Ranabir, on-duty doctor at the hospital, said the symptoms were vomiting and convulsion. This may be caused by food poisoning or from physical weakness, psychological pressure, fluctuation of blood pressure, and mental effects after seeing others sick, he said.
