Man uproots nephew's teeth
A 10-year-old boy lost five of his upper front teeth when being brutalised by his maternal uncle in Dowarabazar upazila of Sunamganj Thursday.
He was being punished for bunking classes and instead visiting his grandfather.
Local people rescued Tajul Islam and had him admitted to Sylhet Medical College Hospital.
The incident happened when there has been a huge outcry over numerous reports of brutality against children all over the country.
Quoting the villagers, police said Tajul, a student of Tebali Hafizia Madrasa, missed the classes on Thursday and instead went to visit his grandfather at Rakhalkandi village.
The boy lives at the same village with his widowed mother Surjo Banu.
When his uncle, Fazle Rabbi, 25, saw the boy at his house, he charged why he did not go to the madrasa and started lashing him with an electricity cable, said Mustafizur Rhaman, officer-in-charge of Dowarabazar Police Station.
At one point, Tajul bit the cable to resist but his uncle yanked it out, taking five of his front teeth in the upper jaw with it, the OC said.
Villagers rushed in hearing the screams. They first took the boy to the upazila health complex and then to Sylhet.
The mother of the boy said she filed a case against his brother on Thursday night.
First abandoned by her husband Harun Miah and then widowed, she works as a domestic help to support the family of two.
Fazle Rabbi went into hiding.
