Man dies on Dhaka street being 'pushed in front of bus by bus helper'
A passenger of a bus was killed when another bus ran him over after its helper allegedly pushed him onto the street at the capital's Mirpur-10 intersection yesterday.
Humayun Kabir, 45, of Tolarbagh, was a contractor.
His friend Gazi Azad Hossain, who was with Humayun in a bus of Shikhor Paribahan, told The Daily Star that their bus and another one of Alif Paribahan were trying to overtake each other from Agargoan.
When they stopped at the intersection, few passengers including Humayun stood in front of the Alif Paribahan bus to express anger, leading the helper to push him, he said.
Humayun was declared dead at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, said Azad.
Mirpur police said driver of Alif Paribahan bus was detained and the vehicle was seized but the helper managed to escape.
Meanwhile, a policeman died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital yesterday hours after he was hit by a bus in Gulistan, said police.
M Julhas, 32, who left behind a son and a daughter, was a constable of Protection and Protocol Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
