Hold governing body polls by May 27
HC directs Viqarunnisa Noon School and College authorities
The High Court yesterday directed the authorities concerned to hold election to the governing body of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College by May 27.
The court came up with the verdict following a writ petition that said the tenure of the regular governing body expired on August 29, 2010.
A special committee and three ad hoc committees were formed one after another for running the institution but none of those held any election for a regular governing body, petitioner Eunus Ali Akond, also a Supreme Court lawyer, claimed.
As per relevant rules, an ad hoc committee, within a month of its formation, is supposed to form a regular committee of the governing body through election.
Eunus said the authorities concerned from the government and the institution have to hold the governing body poll by May 27 as the present ad hoc committee's tenure will expire on that day.
The existing ad hoc committee, headed by Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon, was formed on last November 27.
On last December 9, the HC issued a rule upon the authorities concerned involving the government and the institution to explain why the ad hoc committee should not be declared illegal. Menon and principal of the institution in reply to the HC rule said they could not hold the election due to unavoidable reasons.
