HC sets Jan 3 for order on plea for staying polls of municipalities
The High Court yesterday fixed January 3, 2016, for passing an order on a writ petition seeking stay on holding the upcoming municipality elections scheduled for December 30.
A Supreme Court lawyer SM Zulfiqure Ali Junu filed the petition on Sunday mentioning that there are some anomalies in the numbers in the schedules 2, 3, 4 and 5 announced under the Pourasava Election Rules, 2010, which were amended on November 23 this year.
However, on Monday the EC has allocated election symbols to the candidates.
Yesterday, the Election Commission's lawyer Touhidul Islam told the court that his client will send the rules to the law ministry for correcting the mistakes within few days. AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon appeared for the petitioner.
