Goyeshwar slams own party peoples' self-serving agenda

BNP could have been in power by now if the party men had engaged in a movement giving half their present efforts seeking posts through the 6th national council, said BNP Standing Committee Member Goyeshwar Chandra Roy yesterday.

Addressing a meeting of BNP's Dhaka city unit in the capital's Bhasani Auditorium, he urged the party men to remain alert to thwart the government's "conspiracy" to foil the March 19 council.

"How many conspiracies will you hatch? The first step of the council achieved success as Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman have already been elected to the two top posts of BNP. We want to respond to the government's plots by making our council a success," he said.

He also gave directives urging the party men to maintain discipline on that day, pointing out that the venue, the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh, was small compared to the number of party councillors and guests scheduled to arrive.

"We have nearly 2,850 councillors in addition to guests from both home and abroad, but we have sitting arrangements for only 4,500. So, do not try to enter the venue. Instead, take position outside and at Suhrawardy Udyan," he said.

He said as long as BNP's Dhaka city unit convener Mirza Abbas was not released from jail, its joint convener and BNP chairperson's adviser, Abdul Awal Mintoo, would shoulder the responsibility.
