Eminent citizens again seek PM's intervention
Eminent citizens yesterday requested Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's initiative to ensure justice for the brutal murder of Tanwir Muhammed Taqi in 2013 in Narayanganj.
A statement, signed by 19 noted personalities, commemorating the two-and-a-half year anniversary of the teenager's murder, said, "Honourable prime minister, you know who killed Taqi. We expect your intervention to ensure quick submission of the charge sheet of Taki murder case, and arrest and punishment for all the criminals."
On March 6, 2013, 17-year-old Taqi's body was found by the banks of the Shitalakkhya river in Narayanganj, two days after the boy had gone missing.
In 2014, Rapid Action Battalion revealed that their investigation found involvement of Azmeri Osman, son of late Jatiya Party MP Nasim Osman and nephew of Awami League MP Shamim Osman, in the abduction and murder of Taqi, son of cultural activist Rafiur Rabbi.
On the one year anniversary of the murder, Rab's erstwhile additional director general at a press conference said they had completed their investigation. He also provided journalists with a draft charge sheet saying that it would soon be submitted to the court, read the statement of the eminent citizens, adding that the submission however never happened.
The statement was signed by emeritus Prof Anisuzzaman, Prof Serajul Islam Choudhury, Kamal Lohani, Ahmad Rafique, Prof Hasan Azizul Haque, Prof Jatin Sarker, Prof Syed Anwar Hossain, Syed Abul Moksud, Sultana Kamal, Hayat Mahmud, Prof Syed Manzoorul Islam, Safiuddin Ahmad, Sarwar Ali, Maleka Begum, Ayesha Khanom, Prof Shafi Ahmad, Prof Anu Muhammad, Prof MM Akash and Shishir Bhattacharya.
