Dhaka University bans ‘rag day’, says will form ‘ethical review committee’
The Dhaka University authorities today decided to impose a ban on celebrating rag day on the university campus.
A meeting of the university's Academic Council took the decision to ban celebrating "inhuman, brutal, and unethical" festivals in the name of "rag day", reads a press release of Dhaka University.
The meeting also recommended to form an "ethical review committee" in all faculties.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman chaired the virtual meeting, which was attended by Pro- VC (admin) Prof Muhammad Samad, Pro-VC (education) Prof ASM Maksud Kamal, and deans of different faculties.
The council also decided to allow faculties/departments and institutes of the university to hold unfinished examinations and publish results following proper hygiene.
The meeting put emphasis on taking fundamental research projects and publishing research works on the occasion of the university's birth centenary and golden jubilee of the country's independence.
