A court in Chattogram today sent six Jamaat-e-Islami men to jail in connection with a case filed over vandalising the photos of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Former lawmaker from Chattogram-15 and Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Amir for Chattogram unit ANM Shamsul Islam was among the six accused, reports our Chattogram correspondent.

District and Session Court Judge Md Ismail Hossain passed the order after the six Jamaat men surrendered to the court seeking bail, said Subrata Banerjee, inspector of Chattogram court.

The court sent them to jail rejecting their bail prayer," added Subrata Banerjee.

The five other Jamaat men are Professor Ahsan Ullah, Dr Mahbubar Rahman, Dr Kawsar Ahmed, Md Safiul Alam and Nizam Uddin. They are teachers and officials of International Islamic University Chattogram (IIUC).

Lawyer Kamal Uddin filed the case against the Jamaat men with Sitakunda Police Station on February 24 this year. According to the case statement, the jamaat leaders provoked Chhatra Shibir members to attack Chhatra League (BCL) IIUC unit office where the attackers vandalised the photos of Bangabandhu and PM on the day.
