CU BCL activist arrested in arms case

Abu Taher Mamun, the prime accused in an arms recovery case involving Bangladesh Chhatra league's (BCL) Chittagong University (CU) unit, was arrested yesterday afternoon.

Police arrested Mamun, a student of international relations, from the university's Pagoda hostel, said police.

On November 2 last year, 50 people including four policemen were injured as two factions of CU unit BCL clashed during an admission test. Police detained 30 people from Shahjalal and Shah Amanat halls and recovered two firearms, four sacks of brickbats and machetes. A case was filed accusing 10 BCL activists on November 3.
