A policeman on Thursday apologised for his discourteous behaviour with a female student of Dhaka University during Pahela Baishakh celebrations in Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) area.

Constable Ruhul Amin shoved the student and hurled abusive words at her when he was clearing the road for the car of the inspector general of police (IGP), claimed the victim.

The victim is a master's student of statistics, biostatistics and informatics and vice president of DU unit of Bangladesh Chhatra Federation.

The car was heading towards Doyel Chattar from Shahbagh around 7:00pm.

As the fellow students protested the matter, the policeman also engaged in an altercation with them, she claimed.

Later, the student submitted a written complaint to the proctor.

Earlier, the left leaning student organisation brought out a protest procession demanding trial of the policeman.

Following the application, DU proctorial body held a meeting with student leaders and Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

Constable Amin made an unconditional apology for his behaviour during the meeting, said Proctor AM Amzad.

DMP Joint Commissioner Krishna Pada Roy, who was present at the meeting, called the incident unexpected.
