College student stabbed in Dhaka’s Lalbagh

A college student was stabbed by unknown attackers in Old Dhaka's Lalbagh area this afternoon.

Bappy, 20, a student of Shariatpur Govt College, is receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital for wounds in the chest and hands.

His friend Md Sagar said Bappy arrived at his uncle's house in Lalbagh from his village home in Shariatpur yesterday.

Bappy, Sagar and another friend went out on a bike around 12:30pm.

As they were talking near Lalbagh Fort, parking the motorcycle nearby, around 10 to 15 youths approached them and started beating up Bappy and his friend, Sagar -- who witnessed the attack -- said.

The attackers snatched their mobile phones and wallets. Bappy resisted as they tried to take his DSLR camera from him. The youths then stabbed Bappy indiscriminately, leaving him critically injured, he said.

Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH Police Post, said the victim sustained four stabs in the chest and hands.
