Child dies as boat capsizes

An eighteen-month-old child drowned and a youth went missing after a boat capsized in the river Karotoa in Rangamatiya of Shibganj upazila in Bogra yesterday afternoon.

The deceased was Salman Babu, son of Masud Rana of Khejutola village in sadar upazila of Noakhali district, while the missing is Hridoy, 18, son of Abul Kalam of Sultanganjpara in Bogra town.

The boat with 14-15 passengers on board sank in the middle of the river as water, which entered through leaks, cannot be removed from the hull quickly, Sub-inspector Zahid Hasan of Shibganj Police Station quoted the locals as saying.

Locals and fire service rescued the other passengers, he said.
