Businessman Tajul dies in road crash

Former Westman Power Plant chairman Tajul Islam Faruk died as an oncoming truck rammed his car on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Nachharatpur of Sadar upazila in Habiganj yesterday.

Tajul came to the countrymen's attention through lodging an extortion case against Awami League President Sheikh Hasina during the 2007 military-backed caretaker government. However, the High Court dismissed the lawsuit on May 30, 2010.

Ejajur Rahman Shaiestaganj, officer-in-charge of Highway Police Station, told The Daily Star that Tajul was going to Dhaka. Agitating locals put up barricades on the road, which was later withdrawn following police action.

Ejajur said police seized the truck.
