Bus staff found murdered

The Shyamoli Paribahan head mechanic, who went missing five days ago, was found dead in a dustbin near his workplace at Boliarpur in Savar outside the capital Friday night.

On information from locals, police recovered the decomposing body of Asif Sardar Ratan tied with a rope near NR CNG Filling Station, owned by the bus company.

The body also bore injury marks on different parts, said police.

Asif's wife Kohinur Begum told reporters at Savar Police Station that his husband was a victim of a dispute over property between two brothers Romesh Chandra Ghosh and Romoni Chandra Ghosh, proprietors of the company. Romoni's brother-in-law Shosti Ghosh, also manager of the filling station, killed Asif with the help of other employees as he was trusted to Romesh, said Kohinur.

The victim's son Kamruzzaman Rony filed a case accusing four staff of the filling station, including Shosti.

According to the case statement, Asif had been missing since January 3. On January 7, Rony filed a written complaint with the police station.

The filling station's six employees -- Azim Ali Sheikh, Nukul Ghosh, Khairul Islam, Lutfor Rahman, Abul Kashem and Gopal Kumar -- were arrested in connection with the murder, said Sub-inspector Zakaria Hosen. He, however, said the prime accused Shosti was on the run. In primary interrogation, the arrestees, who were sent to jail, confessed to their involvement in the killing, said Zakaria.

Meanwhile, protesting the murder, the workers of Shyamoli Paribahan vandalised the CNG filling station and some buses parked there. Later, police brought the situation under control.

Talking to The Daily Star, Romesh admitted that he has a dispute with his brother over property. But the dispute did not reach any level that can lead to the killing. "I want punishment for the perpetrators, whoever they are," said Romesh.
