BNP to finalise list on Saturday

BNP will finalise the names of its chairman aspirants of the second phase of the Union Parishad polls by Saturday, party insiders said.

However, according to the party's directives yesterday was the final day in this regard. But the party's central coordination committee regarding the polls has received names for around 100 UPs out of 684, they said. The second phase of the UP polls will be held on March 31.

"We hope that we will get all names of the possible candidates of the second phase polls by Friday and announce the names of final candidates on Saturday," said Emran Saleh Prince, assistant publicity secretary of the party and a member of the coordination committee.

Meanwhile, BNP Joint Secretary General Rizvi Ahmed yesterday alleged that party candidates could not submit their nomination papers in 83 UPs as the ruling party men barred them.

"Among the 83 chairman candidates, 30 could not submit their nomination papers in Bagerhat. Besides, BNP candidates have been facing death threats…," said Rizvi at a press briefing at the party's Nayapaltan headquarters.
