Bid for child marriage foiled, four jailed in Benapole

A mobile court foiled a bid for child marriage in a drive on College Road in Benapole area of Jessore yesterday.

It jailed bridegroom Maruf Hossain Sajib, his father Sowkat Ali, 48, the bride's mother Mahfuja Rahman, 34, and marriage registrar Mostofa Kamal for ten days.

They were already sent to jail, court sources said.

Acting on a tip-off, the mobile court led by Md Abdus Salam, upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) of Sharsha upazila, raided the house of the 15-year-old girl in the area around 2:30pm while the marriage ceremony was going on.
