BCL pledges ‘world class’ DU

Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) is running their campaign with promise to make the Dhaka University “world class” and create job opportunities after education ahead of Ducsu polls slated for Monday.

They are also promising to introduce international standard teacher assessment system at the university in their campaign for Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) election.

Leaders and supporters of Chhatra League’s panel Sammilita Sikkharthi Sangsad also pledging for steps for expansion of residential halls by recovering grabbed university lands, multistoried halls to ease the residential crisis of the students.

Chhatra League panel General Secretary candidate Golam Rabbani said they have made realistic promises.

“We will be able to fulfil some pledges like restricting movements of vehicles of outsiders inside the campus and introducing health insurances for students within one year”

“Rest of the pledges would be gradually fulfilled,” he said.

Panel members and supporters are passing busy days ahead of Monday’s DUCSU polls. They are distributing flyers to students, going to rooms of the dormitories holding mass conducts, to woo the students in favour of them.

Chhatra League in their manifesto promised steps for keeping the central library open for 24 hours and digitalization of the library. It also said the number of university buses and trips will be increased and they will also try to introduce air-conditioned buses.

Chhatra League leaders, however, promised that they would express solidarity with students’ demand of suspending the evening courses run at the university.

Promises also include increasing allocation in research and making the campus free from drugs.

Increasing of seats at hall reading rooms and providing air-condition facilities at these, appointment of specialist physicians at university medical centre and health insurance for students, special assistance package for poor students, are some of their promises.

Their promises include steps for transparent admission systems, making the campus hundred per cent friendly to physically challenged students, elimination of gender discrimination.

They also promised for creation Sheikh Hasina Research Institution on the field of political science and Liberation War Research Institution for researching the great war. Ensuring quality foods at cafeterias and canteens and setting up cultural centres for indigenous communities.

General students said that Chhatra League has not made any direct comments about the guest room culture which is constant matter of worries for the first year and second year students.

The so-called “guest-room culture” faced a huge controversy after a first-year marketing student, Hafijur Mollah, died on February 2 in 2016. His friends and family alleged that he was tortured at the guest room of Salimullah Hall and died after suffering from pneumonia and typhoid.
