BCL Jhalakathi president arrested

Shafiqul Islam Shaifque, president of Jhalakathi district unit of   Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), was arrested on Thursday night at his Kali Bari Road house in Jhalakathi city in an "attempted murder" case, said M M Mahamud, senior assistant superintendent of Jhalakathi police.

Shaifque hacked president of BCL's Sadar upazila unit Raifqul Islam Rahat on Wednesday afternoon over a prolonged political dispute between them, added Mahamud.

With severe injuries, Rahat was rushed to Jhalakathi Sadar Hospital.

Following the incident, he filed a case against 8 persons including Shafique with Sadar police.

Later, a team of police raided Shafique's house and arrested him.
