Annisul for respecting each other to enrich Bangladesh
Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Annisul Huq yesterday said Bangladesh would reach a dignified position if its people respect each other.
Every person irrespective of social, physical and economic status deserves dignity, he said at "Global Dignity Day Closing Ceremony 2015" in the capital organised by Friendship, an NGO.
State Minister for Finance MA Mannan urged ensuring dignity so that future generations do not become slaves and said the government, out of self respect, decided to replace "aid" with "loan" given by international organisations.
The French ambassador, Sophie Aubert, said poverty does not necessarily mean that financially insolvent people do not have any dignity.
Friendship Founder and Executive Director Runa Khan said, "When you help the poor, give them your help in a manner that is not rude or disrespectful because otherwise you take away their dignity. And when you take that away you are leaving them worse than how they were in the first place," she said.
Speakers also urged people to pay respect to others' emotion and condition as dignity prevails among everyone.
