Allow Sumaiya as DSCC councillor candidate: HC

The High Court yesterday ordered Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Zillar Rahman to allow Sumaiya Begum to contest in the Dhaka South City Corporation election as a councillor aspirant for reserved seat in ward no 19 after Zillar apologised before it for cancelling her candidature.

The HC passed the order following a writ petition filed by Sumaiya. In the petition, she said the returning officer concerned cancelled her nomination paper on April 1 for not signing the affidavit.

Zillar appeared before the HC as per its Thursday's order and offered unconditional apology, saying that he made the mistake in his order though he allowed Sumaiya during hearing her appeal, Deputy Attorney General Amatul Karim told The Daily Star.

The commissioner on April 4 rejected the appeal against the returning officer's decision.
