AL candidate wins Magura-1 by-poll

Awami League nominated candidate Maj Gen (retd) ATM Abdul Wahab won the Magura-1 by-election held yesterday.

According to unofficial reports, Wahab bagged 93,181 votes. His nearest contestant was Tapan Kumar Roy, former Magura municipality mayor. Around 324,055 voters cast their ballots at a total of 140 polling stations.

On April 20, the Election Commission announced the by-polls schedule for the constituency that fell vacant following the death of Dr Muhammad Serajul Akbar on March 9.
