Abducted bank official freed after payment of ransom

A bank official, who had been abducted from DEPZ bus stand on Monday evening, was released yesterday in Baruipara of Ashulia in exchange for Tk 2.75 lakh.

Md Akhtaruzzaman, manager of Premier Bank's DEPZ branch, was forced into a bus at gunpoint on his way to home. Around 10/15 abductors, who were seated as passengers in the bus, beat him up after taking away his mobile phone sets and Tk 25,000 and demanded Tk 10 lakh more as ransom, he said. The criminals collected Tk 1 lakh from his house and withdrawn Tk 1.50 lakh more using his credit card before releasing him, he added.
