400 illegal structures demolished
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) yesterday demolished around 400 illegal structures on DCC market premises at Gulshan-2 and also fined two shop owners a total of Tk 30,000.
Executive magistrate of DNCC Samsul Islam Mehedi led the drive.
Abdus Salam Mridha, prosecution officer of DNCC, said they conducted the drive to make the market area and its nearby footpaths free from illegal structures.
The shop owners were fined for running shops without DCC licences, he said, adding that the drive will continue.
In another drive conducted by Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) in Motijheel Shapla Chattar area and in Dilkusha, several illegal structures were demolished to clear footpaths and parking spaces.
AKM Maruf Hossain, executive magistrate of Rajuk, said Rajuk officials and some day laborers took part in the drive along with one bulldozer. The drive continued from 10:00am to 3:00pm.
