25pc of patients die within one hour of heart attack

Physicians yesterday said at least 25 percent of patients die within one hour of heart attack. Therefore, a patient must be rushed to the nearest hospital which has facilities including angiogram, angioplasty, stenting and bypass surgery.

They also advised the doctors of the hospitals without the facilities, to give streptokinase or use urokinase injection without delay, before referring the patient to another hospital.

They were addressing a seminar titled "Modern Treatment of Heart Attack and Brain Attack", organised jointly by Uttara Cardiac Center and Lubana General Hospital at Uttara Club, says a press release.

Acetylsalicylic acid 300mg, clopidogrel 300mg, pantoprazole 20 mg, atorvastatin 20mg and alprazolam 0.5mg should be given immediately to a heart attack patient to reduce the death risk in manifolds, they said.

Chairman of the hospital Sirajul Haque presided over the seminar, moderated by Dr Rakibul Islam Litu.

Among others, Prof Dr Jalal Uddin, Prof Dr Syed Ali Ahsan, Dr Mahbubur Rahman, Dr Foyezul Islam, Dr Rashimul Haque Rimon, and Dr Subhas Kanti Dey, participated.
