2 teachers hurt in attack 'by management body president'

Management committee president allegedly attacked headmistress and an assistant teacher of Nowagaon Government Primary School in Dharamapasa upazila in Sunamganj yesterday.

Dipali Rani Das, the headmistress, and Moni Rani Talukdar were admitted to Dharamapasa Upazila Health Complex.

Following a dispute over government biscuit distribution among schoolchildren, the committee president Sorbananda Talukdar and his supporters equipped with sticks stormed into the campus and asked Dipali to vacate the school, saying that he obstructed their development activities, said the victims.

Dipali told The Daily Star that she was attacked as she always protested against corruption committed by Sorbananda. Moni was  injured as she tried to resist them.

Sorbananda, however, denied all the allegations.

Rokeya Akther Khatun, upazila education officer, said she got a complaint from the teachers in this regard. Actions will be taken after investigation, he said.
