14 Ctg BCSIR officers get death threat
Fourteen officers of Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR) in Chittagong city received death threats over phone on Friday.
The miscreants identified themselves as members of "Purba Bangla Sarbahara Party", and demanded money for the treatment of their leaders, otherwise threatened to kill the officers and their family members, but did not mention the amount, said the officers.
Dr Nazrul Islam Bhuiyan, senior scientific officer of BCSIR, and also one of the two officers who filed general diaries (GD) said, "Between 11:30am to 12:30pm we were phoned individually from a mobile number. The caller identified him as Biplob and asked to talk to his boss Mohiuddin, who verbally abused the officers and demanded money…He mentioned the home districts of the officers and threatened to kill their family members as well, if the demands are not met."
Some of the officers went back home due to a three-day holiday, said Dr Nazrul. "One of our colleagues will file a general diary in Dhaka. The rest will be decided once the office resumes on Monday," he added, and claimed that police did not allow them to mention the name of the organisation in the GDs.
Md Mohsin, officer-in-charge of Baizid Police Station told this correspondent that the officers while filing did not mention or write name of any organisation. "We are investigating to trace the phone number and the culprits," he added.
