100 RMG workers fall sick 'drinking factory supplied water' in Gazipur

The authorities of a garment factory in Gazipur's Konabari suspended its production yesterday after over a hundred of its workers fell sick allegedly after drinking water at its canteen in the morning.

Workers who drank water in the canteen of Keya Spinning Mills Ltd started having feeling of nausea, dizziness, headache and stomachache within one and a half hours and some of them even fainted, said Anowar Hossain, a worker who did not drink the water.

Konabari police said the factory authorities yesterday admitted them to different local hospitals and clinics and sample of the water was sent to a laboratory in the capital for testing.

The factory has own facility to pump water. Around 600 workers are employed by the factory.

Confirming the incident, Dr Babul Ahmed Sharif of Konabari Sharif General Hospital said around 100 workers of the factory came to the hospital around 11:45am for treatment.
