2 people fined Tk 50 lakh for illegally damaging hills in Chattogram

The Department of Environment (DoE) today fined two people Tk 50 lakh for illegally cutting and eventually destroying around 50,000 square feet of hills in Arefin Nagar and Foy's Lake of Chattogram.

DoE of Chattogram (metro) fined the two after a hearing at its Khulshi office this noon, our local correspondent reports quoting Mia Mahmudul Haque, deputy director of the DoE.

Md Tayab, principal of Talimul Quran Madrasah, was fined Tk 32.6 lakh because he flattened around 32,600 square feet of hills in Arefin Nagar to extend the boundary wall of the madrasah, Mahmudul Haque said.  

Another Saker Munna was fined Tk 18 lakh for cutting through nearly 18,000 square feet of hills near Foy's Lake for business without permission from authorities concerned, the DoE official said.
