Closing ceremony of IR Week held at the Chittagong University
The closing ceremony of "IR Week 2025," organised by the Chittagong University International Relations Society (CUIRS), was held on November 2 in the Faculty of Social Sciences auditorium of Chittagong University (CU). The organisation's Annual General Meeting (AGM) was also held on the same occasion.
Vice Chancellor of CU, Prof. Dr Muhammad Yeahia Akhter, graced the program as the Chief Guest. At the same time, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof. Dr Md Kamal Uddin was present as the Special Guest. The event was presided over by Prof. Md Niaz Morshed, Chairman of the Department of International Relations and Chief Advisor of the organisation. Along with them were present Dr Md Anwar Hossain, Director of the Students' Counselling and Guidance Centre; Prof. Dr Mohammad Faridul Alam; and Prof. Dr Sujit Kumar Dutta, along with other faculty members of the Department of International Relations, students from different academic years, and guests.
Addressing the ceremony, the Vice Chancellor praised the Department of International Relations for being one of the leading departments in the Faculty of Social Sciences in terms of research that has earned widespread recognition for its academic excellence and popularity among students. Commending the organisers, he added that such academic initiatives should exist in every department, as they enhance a department's image and contribute to the university's intellectual environment.
In his remarks, the Special Guest, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof. Dr Md Kamal Uddin, expressed his satisfaction that the Department of International Relations ranks first at the university in being free from session jams. He also expressed hope that CUIRS would continue to contribute positively to the department's reputation. He thanked everyone involved for organising such a successful and engaging event.
Throughout the week-long programme, several academic and extracurricular events took place, including seminars and roundtable discussions on research and higher education, an inter-departmental debate competition, sports and cultural programs, and a poster presentation contest. The final round of the debate competition was followed by a vibrant cultural performance after the AGM and prize-giving ceremony.
Concluding the event, President Md Niaz Morshed announced the seven-member Executive Committee of CUIRS for the 2025–26 session and formally closed the ceremony. In his closing speech, he expressed confidence that the new leadership of CUIRS would continue to uphold and advance the department's and the university's reputation through dedicated efforts in academic and extracurricular fields.
