DU suspends three students for harassing two women at TSC last month

Disciplinary action follows probe into February 24 incident

Dhaka University authorities today suspended three students for six months over their involvement in harassing two women at the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) area last month.

The disciplinary action was taken following recommendations from an investigation committee formed to probe the incident, according to a press release issued by the Dhaka University Public Relations Office.

DU Proctor Prof Saifuddin Ahmed issued the suspension order exercising the authority granted under the Dhaka University Order.

The suspended students are: Shahriar Islam Tushar from the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies, Rakib Ahmed from the Department of World Religions and Culture, and Shahriar Tanzil from the Department of Anthropology.

They were found to be involved in the incident in which two women and two men were harassed in the TSC area in the early hours of February 24.

Following the incident, the university formed an investigation committee, and the decision to suspend the students was taken based on its findings, the press release said.
