Star Online Report

Three Bangladeshi students have won a gold medal at the International World Innovative Student Expo (IWISE) Global Finals held in Dubai, marking a notable achievement for the country in global student research and innovation.

The competition took place on February 2, 2026, where the students represented Bangladesh with a research project on advanced underwater vehicle technology.

The winning team comprised Faiq Abrar Kamal from SFX Green Herald International School, Md Mahib Al Mamun from St Joseph School, and Farhin Rahman Purno from St Joseph College.

Their research, titled “A Stealth-Optimized Hybrid Propulsion System for Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs),” focused on improving propulsion systems to enhance the stealth and efficiency of autonomous underwater vehicles. The paper is also being submitted to a prestigious IEEE conference with the aim of formal publication.

According to a press release, the students spent several months developing the independent research project before participating in the international competition. Their project was selected through a three-stage evaluation process that included research paper submission, a virtual assessment round, and the global finals in Dubai.

Competing against participants from several countries, the Bangladeshi team secured the gold medal and received the highest merit-based scholarship offer to attend a group of prestigious international high schools in Cambridge. They also secured conditional scholarships from the University of Surrey and several other universities through a competitive selection process.

The achievement highlights the growing presence of Bangladeshi students on international research and innovation platforms, the press release said.
