Presidency University hosts Pitha Festival to celebrate Bengali traditions
Presidency University hosted its annual “Pitha Festival–1432” on January 22 and 23, celebrating Bengali winter traditions through food, music and cultural performances.
The campus took on a festive atmosphere as students from seven academic departments set up rows of stalls offering a wide variety of traditional pithas, the seasonal delicacies closely associated with winter in Bengal, says a press release. Alongside the food fair, the university’s Cultural Club organised folk music and dance performances, highlighting the region’s cultural heritage.
The festival was inaugurated at 11:00am by Vice-Chancellor Md Abdul Mannan Chowdhury. The opening ceremony was attended by the principal adviser to the Board of Trustees Md Anwarul Kabir, along with deans, the registrar, the controller of examinations, heads of departments, faculty members, staff and students.
Organisers said the festival aimed to encourage student participation and teamwork while creating a shared space to celebrate traditional practices, cultural expression and community bonding within the university.
