NSU hosts indoor badminton tournament, concludes with grand finale
North South University (NSU) organised the grand finale of its indoor badminton tournament on Sunday evening, February 8, at the NSU Indoor Ground.
The week-long tournament aimed to strengthen relationships and promote teamwork among members of the university community, says a press release.
The final event was attended by Aziz Al Kaiser, chairman of the Board of Trustees of North South University, along with board members M A Kashem, Benajir Ahmed, Mohammed Shajahan, Yasmin Kamal, Rehana Rahman and Fawzia Naaz.
A special attraction of the evening was a friendly match between Aziz Al Kaiser and vice-chancellor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, which drew a warm response from the audience.
Speaking at the event, Aziz Al Kaiser said, “This tournament is an effort to build stronger relationships within the NSU community and inspire everyone to stay active and healthy. A university is not only a place for academic learning; it is also a space where mutual respect, teamwork, and a sense of belonging are developed. Events like this create opportunities for meaningful interaction beyond classrooms and offices, helping to build a more united and supportive environment for all. I am truly encouraged to see such enthusiastic participation, which reflects the strong spirit of the NSU family.”
Abdul Hannan Chowdhury said, “It is wonderful to see such enthusiastic participation from across the university, as it demonstrates our shared commitment to holistic development. Engaging in sports helps reduce stress, promotes physical and mental well-being, and strengthens the bonds among colleagues and students. These initiatives play an important role in creating a more vibrant, inclusive, and dynamic campus life.”
Organised by the North South University Games and Sports Club, the tournament ran from February 1 to February 8 and saw participation from students, faculty members, officers, employees and university leadership. Players displayed skill, determination and sportsmanship throughout the competition.
In the students’ male category, Team CSC Pro emerged champions, represented by Md Azowad Islam and Tanvir Hasan Prince, while Team BBT Smashers, represented by Mahmud Hasan and Md Asadullah Al Nahiann, finished runners-up. In the students’ female category, Team BBA Bubble Trouble won the title through Akeek Sana Tariq and Raisa Mujib, with Team Pharma-Elixir-2, represented by Robaiya Rashid Pithi and Mst Ummay Tanassum, as runners-up.
In the faculty and officer male category, Team Smash Master claimed the championship with Md Akteruzzaman and Md Takbir Alam, while Team AKHN, represented by Dr Akram Hossian and Dr Bulbul Siddiqi, finished second. In the faculty and officer female category, Team Shuttle Hustle won the title through Professor Nazlee Siddiqui and Humaira Haque, while Team Falcon Queen, represented by Shymun Nahar Shupta and Sarina Sultana, were runners-up.
Among club executives, Team NSU SC became champions with Md Sayedul Karim Sikder and Shimanto Majumder, while Team NSU MBAC, represented by Hasibul Hoque and Manas Banik, finished runners-up. In the university leadership category, Team Board Chairman’s Office won the championship with Aziz Al Kaiser and Jahidul Islam, while Team Vice-Chancellor’s Office, represented by Abdul Hannan Chowdhury and Ruman Sarwar, finished second.
Participants and guests said the tournament offered a welcome break from routine activities and helped create opportunities for interaction across different segments of the university community.
