Mashrur Arefin named ‘CEO of the Year 2025’ at Bangladesh C-Suite Awards

Mashrur Arefin, Managing Director and CEO of City Bank PLC, has been awarded the 'CEO of the Year - 2025' in the Financial Institutions category at the 4th Bangladesh C-Suite Awards.

The honours recognises his leadership and more than 30 years of contribution to the country's financial sector. Previous winners include Ali Reza Iftekhar, Syed Mahbubur Rahman and Kamal Qadir.

City Bank has seen strong performance under his leadership over the past six years. Operating profit increased from Tk 699 crore in 2018 to Tk 2,351 crore in 2024. Net profit grew from Tk 202 crore to Tk 1,085 crore. ROE rose from 8.2 per cent to 26.1 per cent, and total capital more than doubled. Bangladesh Bank also recognised City Bank as the top Sustainable Bank of 2024.

Mashrur has led the bank's digital transformation through Citytouch and products such as the Digital Nano Loan. He is also a novelist, poet and translator. He serves as Chairman of ABB, Chairperson of SWIFT Bangladesh and Board Director of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
