IUBAT holds 9th convocation ceremony in Dhaka
International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) held its ninth convocation ceremony on January 26, 2026, at the Bangladesh–China Friendship Conference Center in Agargaon, Dhaka.
The event marked a major academic milestone for undergraduate and postgraduate students, says a press release.
Shahrin Khondkar from Agriculture, Mst Lutfunnaher Kamini from English, and Maharunnesa Mitu from Public Health received the Miyan Gold Medals for outstanding academic performance. Shahrin Khondkar was named the top gold medallist and received the Alimullah Miyan Award.
Degrees were conferred in programmes including MBA, MPH, BBA, Agriculture, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Economics, Tourism and Hospitality Management, Nursing and English.
The convocation was presided over by Mohammad Touhid Hossain, adviser for foreign affairs, representing the president of Bangladesh and chancellor of the university. In his address, he highlighted the importance of quality higher education, international cooperation, and the ethical and professional responsibilities of graduates. He also praised IUBAT’s contributions to research, global rankings, sustainable education initiatives and its Knowledge-Based Area Development programme.
The convocation address was delivered by Professor Dr Jeff Keshen, president of the University of Regina, Canada. He underlined the role of higher education, research excellence and international academic collaboration in addressing global challenges.
The ceremony began with a welcome address by Professor Dr Abdur Rab, vice-chancellor of IUBAT. Professor Selina Nargis, treasurer of the university, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing appreciation to the dignitaries, faculty members, graduates, guardians and guests.
Founded in 1991 by the late Professor Dr M Alimullah Miyan, former director of the Institute of Business Administration at the University of Dhaka, IUBAT is the country’s first private university. It has received national and international recognition for academic excellence and research, with notable global rankings among private universities in Bangladesh.
