IEEE BECITHCON 2025 held at Eastern University
Eastern University has hosted the 4th IEEE Conference on Biomedical Engineering, Computer and Information Technology for Health (BECITHCON) 2025.
The first day of the conference took place on November 29, at the university's permanent campus. Sessions ran on schedule, and the event drew active participation from researchers, academics, and students from different universities.
Professor Dr Farid A Sobhani, Vice Chancellor of Eastern University, inaugurated the event as Chief Guest. Distinguished Professor Dr M M Shahidul Hasan from the School of Engineering and Technology at Eastern University attended as Guest of Honour. Senior academics from BUET's EEE Department—Professor Dr Celia Shahnaz, Professor Dr Shaikh A Fattah, and Professor Dr Muhammad Imamul Hasan Bhuiyan—joined as Special Guests. The session was chaired by Professor Dr Md Mahfuzur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology and Chair of the Organising Committee. Speakers discussed future trends in health technology and encouraged young researchers to pursue innovation.
Three international keynote speakers presented their talks virtually.
Dr. Md. Touhidul Islam, Assistant Professor, Department of Radiation Oncology (Medical Physics), Stanford University, USA, presented the keynote "Next-Generation AI for High-Dimensional Biomedical Data: Towards Interpretable and Data-Efficient Discovery", shedding light on innovative and interpretable AI techniques for analyzing complex healthcare data.
Dr. Roshan Joy Martis, Associate Professor, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Manipal Institute of Technology, Bengaluru, India, delivered a talk titled "Intelligent Processing of Biomedical Signals: A Technological Perspective", discussing current applications, challenges, and future opportunities in biomedical signal processing.
Dr. Ashir Ahmed, Associate Professor, Faculty of Information Science and Electrical Engineering, Kyushu University, Japan, spoke on "Digital Transformation for Healthcare Productivity: Lessons from PHC, AI, and Global South Innovation", sharing real-world insights into digital health services, portable health clinics, and AI-driven triage systems aimed at enhancing healthcare productivity.
Parallel sessions throughout the day covered biomedical engineering, smart health systems, artificial intelligence in healthcare, medical devices, and emerging research areas. Strong engagement from researchers, faculty members, professionals, and students created a positive academic environment.
Following the inauguration, Eastern University hosted the co-located International Industrial Activities Congress (INDCon) 2025. It was organised by the IEEE Eastern University Student Branch and the IEEE MIST Student Branch. The programme included project showcasing, quizzes, idea competitions, and other activities. Around 90 students from about 25 universities took part onsite and online.
The first day closed with discussions, presentations, and exchanges among participants. The event highlighted Eastern University's focus on research and collaboration.
The second day of BECITHCON 2025 will be held online on November 30, with more local and international experts joining the sessions.
