Green Savers, BSRM Foundation, and DoE launch plastic-free model school campaign
Green Savers, BSRM Foundation, and the Dhaka Region of the Department of Environment signed a Memorandum of Understanding to launch the Single Use Plastic Free Model School Campaign in Dhaka Division.
The campaign seeks to cut single-use plastics in 100 schools. It also aims to help students, teachers, and communities follow sustainable practices.
Dr Md Kamruzzaman NDC, Director General of the Department of Environment, attended the ceremony as Chief Guest. Md Ziaul Haq, Additional Director General, joined as special guest. Kazi Anwar Ahmed, Advisor of BSRM Group of Companies, and Runi Rahman, Head of CSR of BSRM Group of Companies, were also present.
The campaign will run in 100 schools in Dhaka Division. Eco-Awareness Green Clubs will lead awareness and training work. Students will learn to make paper pens, paper bags, gift wraps, and origami products. Revenue from these items will support school sustainability work. A Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning team will run quarterly audits. The campaign is expected to support 6,000 students directly and reach 50,000 community members. A final award will honour the best-performing Single Use Plastic Free Model School.
Green Savers will manage project design, training, and execution. BSRM Foundation will provide Tk8,170,000 under its Corporate Social Responsibility work. This support will cover infrastructure, workshops, and awareness activities. The Department of Environment will act as the advisory body. It will ensure policy alignment and support student-made eco-products at expos and events.
Speaking at the ceremony, Muhammad Rokebul Ahsan Rony, Founder of Green Savers, said the campaign is about empowering students to become sustainability leaders. Sabeen Aameir, Member of BSRM Foundation, said the project links education, innovation, and environmental responsibility. Md Abul Kalam Azad, Director of the Dhaka Region of the Department of Environment, said the partnership reflects the government's focus on plastic-free practices in schools and communities.
