Gazi Rakib wins third straight singles title at CUB Winter Table Tennis Smash

Muyeed–Zaidan crowned Doubles Champions

The CUB Winter Table Tennis Smash 2026 was held recently at the Canadian University of Bangladesh, drawing students, professional players and national-level competitors in a highly competitive setting. 

A total of 30 players took part in the singles and doubles events, creating an atmosphere marked by excitement and high-quality performances, says a press release.

The tournament featured several closely fought matches, with players including Gazi Rakib, Muyeed Bin Sabir, Zaidan Sharafat, Jarbin Sharafat and Himel Barua attracting attention through their technical skill and consistency. Organisers said the participation of experienced and emerging players significantly raised the overall standard of play.

In the doubles final, Muyeed Bin Sabir and Zaidan Sharafat faced Himel Barua and Jarbin Sharafat in a tense five-set match. The contest remained evenly balanced throughout, with set scores of 11–9, 9–11, 11–7, 8–11 and 11–9. Muyeed and Zaidan eventually secured a 3–2 victory to claim the doubles championship, while Himel and Jarbin finished as runners-up.

The singles final saw Gazi Rakib extend his dominance in the tournament. After dropping the opening set 11–8 to Zaidan Sharafat, he recovered strongly to win the next three sets 11–6, 11–7 and 11–9. The 3–1 win earned him his third consecutive singles title at the CUB Winter Table Tennis Smash, completing a hat-trick.

Organisers said the tournament marked an important chapter in CUB’s table tennis history. They added that the performances and competitive spirit displayed throughout the event would serve as inspiration for future players and help strengthen the university’s sporting culture.
